Pacers top Wexford standings after two rounds

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – Led by Roberto Diaz and J.P. Solis, who both fired 36-hole scores of even-par 144 to lead the individual standings, USC Aiken leads the team standings after the opening day of the fourth-annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Men’s Golf Tournament, held on Hilton Head Island, S.C.

The top-ranked team in NCAA Division II, USCA fired an opening-round 292 team score and followed that with a 299 tally in the afternoon. The Pacers’ 591 score leads host Francis Marion University by two strokes after 36 holes. The University of Richmond is third at 604, followed by USC Upstate at 608 and defending tournament champion Elon University in fifth at 616.

The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday at the par 72, 6,828-yard Wexford Plantation course.

Solis fired the low round of the day with a 3-under 69 over the opening 18 holes and followed that with a 75 in the afternoon. Diaz shot rounds of 70 and 74..

FMU senior Andrew Pitcher (74-73) and junior Christopher Couch (72-75) are among a group of four golfers tied for third place at 147. Also tied at 147 are Robert Lindstrom of Richmond (73-74) and Josh Gallman of USC Upstate (71-76). USCA’s Kevin Grady is seventh at 76-72=148.

Other Patriot golfers are Peter McGibney tied for eighth place (76-73=149), Ronan O’Connor tied for 10th position (78-72=150), and Keith Crowley tied for 22nd place (78-75=153). FMU’s Matt Jackson is competing as an individual and stands tied for 25th place at 80-74=154.

Only five sub-par rounds were recorded over the opening 36 holes by the 81 golfers.
