CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Marissa Hudley's (Charlotte, N.C., Harding University )12 second half points and six rebounds helped the Royals pick up a Conference Carolinas victory over Coker College Tuesday night.
The Royals (13-11/12-7 CC) started off slow, but were able to change gears after taking the lead with a Hudley field goal at the 11:26 point in the first half, 14-13. From there Queens went on a 13-2 run in the next five minutes.
Coker (9-15/8-11) was able to slow the Royals down just before the half with a few free throws and cut the lead to 11, 36-25, to finish out the first stanza.
Queens' offense continued to roll in the second half extending the lead to 16 five minutes in. From the span of 15:13 to 12:25, neither team could make the ball drop through the basket until Erin Goldner (Matthews, N.C., Piedmont) broke the scoring draught with a made free throw.
Another two minutes past without any baskets made. The slowdown in offense allowed Coker to mount a comeback, outscoring the Royals 8-1 and pulling them within eight points with 8:29 to play.
In the last 8:29 the Queens defense only gave up two field goals. The Cobras got to the charity stripe twice, hitting one of four attempts.
Queens' strong defense pulled out the 67-46 win.
