Lady Cobras Drop Two to Anderson

Hartsville, S.C. -The Lady Cobras softball evened their Conference Carolinas record to 2-2, as they dropped their doubleheader to Anderson University on Sunday afternoon. Anderson won with ease in game one 9-3, but it took late inning heroics to pull out the win in game two, 3-2.

The wins improve the Lady Trojans to 12-5 overall, and 2-0 in the conference, while Coker falls to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

Game One
Anderson's Amber Duncan allowed just three runs on five hits, while keeping the Lady Cobra hitters off balance throughout the game, including fanning six Coker batters, on their way to a 9-3 win.

Shelly Catlett (Orangeburg, SC) (4-3) took the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits, with six strikeouts in four innings of work.

At the plate, Anna Oswald (Lexington, SC) had a pair of hits, including a double with a run scored and an RBI, while Brittany Owens (Johnsonville, SC), Shannon Mitchell (Virginia Beach, VA) and Julia Nelson-Abbott (Evans, GA) each had a hit for the Lady Cobras.

For Anderson in game one, Kayla Williams was 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBIs and three runs scored, while Emily Monteith was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBIs and Amber Sutherland was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Game Two
A one run double down the left field line by Meredith Knox in the top of the seventh inning, broke a 2-2 tie and gave Anderson all the runs they would need to bring home the doubleheader sweep of the Lady Cobras, 3-2.

Donya Cobb tossed a complete game for the Lady Trojans, allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts, while Coker's Catlett (4-4) took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits, with six strikeouts.

Knox finished the game 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Amber Sutherland and Lora Daniel each picked up two hits for Anderson as well.

For Coker, Mitchell had an RBI double, while Oswald, Becky Dillon (West Palm Beach, FL) and Haleigh Rogers (Ward, SC) each picked up a hit.

Coker returns to action next week when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C. for a spring tournament Feb. 27- Mar. 1.
