AUGUSTA, Ga. - Augusta State pounded out 13 hits and rolled to a 13-2 non-conference victory over Coker Tuesday afternoon at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
ASU sophomore centerfielder Alex Walker drove in four runs as the team recorded seven extra-base hits. Walker and sophomore first baseman Tristan Toorie logged three hits each and four different Jags scored a pair of runs. Shannon Wilkerson and Kevin Owens each added a pair of safeties.
Sophomore righthander Patrick Lowe picked up his first win of the season, allowing five hits and two runs in 7.0 innings. He struck out five and walked just one. Freshman Wilson Taylor worked the final two innings.
ASU (3-5) jumped in front early with a four-run first inning that included a two-run triple from Wilkerson. The Jags, who slapped three doubles and four triples in the game, pushed its lead to 9-0 in third inning behind four walks and a three-run triple from Walker.
Jessie Crockett and Trevin Taber recorded two hits each for the Cobras, who dropped to 3-4 with the loss.
Coker starter Jesse Hatchell faced six batters and didn't record an out while being charged with three hits and four runs.
ASU takes on Paine College on Wednesday afternoon at Lions Field on the PC campus. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m., with Coker hosting Claflin at the same time.
