Misenheimer, NC - The Pfeiffer University Falcons swept the Cobras of Coker
College on Saturday in a Conference Carolinas softball double-header.
Pfeiffer forced game one to nine innings before scoring the final run to
end the game 3-2 with the Pfeiffer advantage. In game two the Falcons
scored in the fourth inning while keeping Coker scoreless to win 1-0.
Pfeiffer improves to 16-10 overall and 4-4 in conference play, while the
Cobras move to 11-12 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
Game One - Pfeiffer 3, Coker 2
Game one kept fans on the edge of their seats with the first seven innings
remaining scoreless. Coker finally got on the board in the top of the
eighth when Anna Oswald singled scoring Casey Plummer (Hartsville, SC) and
Whitney Wallett (Shermans Dale, PA).
Pfeiffer responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs of its own.
Junior Ranzy York (Milton-Freewater, OR) slammed a homerun over the left
center fence and sent Bryttny Kreshka (Roseburg, OR) to home plate.
Kreshka was pinch running for Sarah Moore (Reidsville, NC) who started the
inning on second base due to international tiebreaker rules.
Pfeiffer held Coker scoreless in the ninth and managed to score the
game-winner in the bottom of the inning. Martina Bullard (Godwin, NC)
started the inning on second and advanced to third after a Kylee Nichols
(McMinville, OR) single. Bullard then ran home for the final score after
tagging up on a fly to right field.
Pfeiffer tallied nine hits in the first game, while Coker marked five. York
led the Falcons with the game-tying home run that gave her two RBIs. She
was 1-2 at the plate. York also pitched the full nine innings giving up
five hits and two runs. She marked five strike outs.
The Cobras were led by Anna Oswald (Lexington, SC) who was 1-4 at the plate
and tallied both of Coker's RBIs. Shelly Catlett (Orangeburg, SC) took the
loss for the Cobras pitching 8.1 innings giving up nine hits and three
runs. Catlett had 10 strike outs.
Game Two - Pfeiffer 1, Coker 0
Game two proved to be another tight game with tough pitching. Pfeiffer
scored the only run of the game in the fourth inning with zero outs when
Nichols reached on an error then advanced to second. Stephanie Bethea
(Greensboro, NC) singled and advanced to second while scoring Nichols.
Pfeiffer tallied two hits in game two while Coker managed three. Leading
the Falcons was Bethea who was 1-2 with the game-winning RBI. Nichols went
1-3 and had the only run of the game. Allison Braswell (Asheboro, NC)
pitched the full seven innings giving up three hits and zero runs. She
marked nine strike outs.
Oswald was 2-3 at the plate for the Cobras. Becky Dillon (West Palm Beach,
FL) pitched six innings giving up two hits and one run. She had one strike
out.
Pfeiffer returns to the diamond on Sunday for a conference double-header
versus Mount Olive College. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
