Hartsville, S.C. - Pfeiffer took home the series win over Coker on Sunday afternoon with a 14-7 victory over the Cobras in Conference Carolinas baseball. The win improves the Falcons to 20-9-1 overall, and 6-2 in the conference, while Coker falls to 15-14 overall, and 3-7 in the conference.
Pfeiffer exploded for seven runs in the first three innings, including a six run third that blew the game wide open. Coker finally plated two runs in the fourth, but the Falcons answered with three more runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth. The Cobras tried to keep things close with a run in the fifth, two in the sixth and another one in the seventh, but Pfeiffer capped the game with two runs in the eighth and one in the ninth. Coker got their final run in the bottom of the ninth, but was unable to manage any more offense.
Chris Thomas (Bluffton, SC) (4-4) took the loss for Coker, allowing seven runs on eight hits in two and two-thirds innings of work, while Nick Fogleman (7-1) avenged the loss he took in relief yesterday with a solid six inning performance. Fogleman allowed five runs on seven hits with eight Ks.
At the plate for Coker, Kyle Walker (Centralia, IL) was 2-for-5 with a triple, a double and three RBIs, while Karl Ankersen (Mt. Pleasant, SC), Taylor Evans (Arvada, CO) and Jessie Crockett (North East, MD) each had two hits.
For Pfeiffer, Zack Pou was 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, an RBI and three runs scored, while Brandon Rouse was 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored. Eric Shoemaker and Ethan Marsh were each had two hits with Marsh knocking in three runs and Shoemaker bringing two home.
Coker returns to the field on Tuesday, as they travel to UNC-Pembroke for a 5:00 p.m. game.
