CHARLESTON MAN FACES FEDERAL EXPLOSIVES CHARGES

United States Attorney W. Walter Wilkins stated today that Chester Eugene Pilcher, age 47, of Charleston, South Carolina, was charged in three-count Indictment with dealing in explosive materials without a license, possession of stolen explosive materials, and unlawful storage of explosive materials, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 842(a)(1), 842(h), and 842(j).

Pilcher was arrested on state charges last January after a search of his residence.

The maximum penalty Pilcher could receive is a fine of $600,000 and imprisonment of 21 years.

Mr. Wilkins stated that the case was investigated by agents of the ATF, NCIS, SLED, Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, Charleston Police Department, and the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office, and that he has assigned the case to Assistant United States Attorney Nick Bianchi of the Charleston office for prosecution.

The United States Attorney stated that all charges in this Indictment are merely accusations and that all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
