Hartsville - The Coker women outscored Erskine, 47-45 in the second half of their game on Thursday night, but it was not enough to overcome the Fleet's 58 points in the first half, giving Erskine a 103-88 win over the Lady Cobras in Conference Carolinas women's basketball.
In a very tightly contested game, the outcome was not an ideal indicator of the closeness of the game, with the exception of Erskine's (10-5, 6-4 Conf. Carolinas) better shooting percentage, 60.3 percent from the field, compared to Coker's (4-10, 3-6 Conf. Carolinas) 39.1 percent, Erskine and Coker were every evenly matched with Coker grabbing 45 total rebounds and Erskine pulling down 42, while Erskine scored 17 points from the charity stripe with Coker scoring 13. Erskine held the advantage on 3-pointers 10-7, but the Lady Cobras were able to limit their turnovers to 16, while the Fleet had 23.
Audrey Timmerman was 7-for-9 from beyond the arc, while dropping in 27 points to lead the Fleet, while Karen Anger had 25 points and Elizabeth Tatum had 14 points and nine rebounds. Porsha Morgan nearly had a double-double with eight points and 11 assists on the night.
For Coker, Kiesha Beavers (Williamstown, NJ) had a career high 27 points and five rebounds, while Lotta Aaltonen (Rauma, Finland) had 24 points and seven rebounds. Also scoring in double figures for Coker was Jessica Hayes (Beaufort, SC) with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Coker returns to the floor on Saturday, as Coker hosts Lees-McRae at 2:00 p.m.
