Koponen Named Hertiage Community Financial Services Athlete of the Month

Hartsville, S.C. - The Heritage Community Financial Services Athlete of the Month for February 2009, is Cobra Women's Basketball player, Henna Koponen (Vantaa, Finland).

Koponen led the Lady Cobras to a record of 5-5 in the month, including a three game winning streak to start the month that including wins over Barton, Belmont Abbey and St. Andrews. Henna was nearly unstoppable during February as she averaged 25.7 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game, this included three double-doubles, a career high 34 points against Mount Olive on the February 12, and 32 points against Erskine on February 26. Koponen also reached a career milestone in February, as she netted her 1,000th point as a Lady Cobra on February 14, against Pfeiffer.

For the year, Koponen averaged 18.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, while receiving Second Team All-Conference honors. Thanks to her stellar scoring the Lady Cobras finished their season with their best record since 2003 and highest win total in Coach Carol Meegan's tenure (11-17, 10-12 Conf. Carolinas). For her career Henna has recorded 1,134 career points and counting.
