Hartsville, S.C. - The Coker Softball team split their Conference Carolinas double-header against St. Andrews on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Cobras won game one, 2-1, but fell in game two, 11-3.
Coker is now 11-10 on the year, and 3-3 in conference, while the Knights improved to 11-12 overall, and 1-1 in the conference.
Game One
The Lady Cobras plated a run in the third inning and a run in the fifth inning, while St. Andrews scored a run in the seventh inning, but Coker was able to hold on for the 2-1 win in game one.
Shelly Catlett (Orangeburg, SC) (8-4) earned the win, allowing just one run on three hits with nine strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work, while Ashley Disque (3-8) took the loss, allowing two runs on seven hits with a strikeout in six innings on the mound. Coker's Sydney Greenwalt (Edwardsville, IL) (1) picked up her first save of the year coming in for the final out of the seventh.
Coker's Haleigh Rogers (Ward, SC) was a perfect 3-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored to lead the Lady Cobras at the plate, while Anna Oswald (Lexington, SC) was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Ashley Coleman (Charleston, SC) was 2-for-2.
For St. Andrews, Danyell Marquez extended her hitting streak to 12 games with an RBI single in the seventh, while Kailee Munden and Brianna Shurtleff each had hits.
Game Two
The Knights bats came to life in game two as St. Andrews exploded for 11 runs on 11 hits, while Sarah Applegarth held the Lady Cobras hitters of balance throughout the game, allowing just three runs on six hits.
Greenwalt (3-3) took the loss for Coker, allowing seven runs on seven hits in five innings of work, while Applegarth (8-4) earned the win, tossing a complete game allowing just three runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
Oswald was the offensive leader, going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored, while Brittany Owens (Johnsonville, SC) was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
For the Knights, Morgan Farroll was 2-for-3 with a double, 3 RBIs and two runs scored, with Jasmine Dobbin going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored. Marquez continued her hitting streak, making it 13 straight games, going 1-for-4 with a RBI double in game two.
Coker returns to action on Saturday, when they travel to Mount Olive, N.C. to face the Mount Olive College Trojans at 1:00 p.m.
