Hartsville, S.C. - The Lady Cobras of Coker College defeated Conference Carolinas rival Limestone College 5-4 Saturday afternoon. With the win, women's tennis improved to 6-4 on the season and 3-3 in conference play.
To begin the day, Coker College captured two of the three doubles points. Rachel Lemar (London, England) and Alyssa Blanchard (Columbia, SC) won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles while Cassidy Spencer (Wilkesboro, NC)and Lindsay Crighton (Florence, SC) clenched the win at the No. 3 spot, 8-2. The lone point for the Saints came at No. 2 doubles as Ashley Pace (Clinton, SC) and Kendall Sigmon (Hilton Head, SC) were defeated 8-5.
When it came to singles, the pressure was on. Blanchard quickly demolished her opponent at the No. 2 position 6-0, 6-2. Spencer and Stephanie Medley (Sumter, SC) each battled against their opponents, but were defeated 7-6(8-6), 6-3 and 7-6(7-2), 6-2 respectively.
As the match was tied 3-3, Crighton managed to pull out the win 6-0, 6-4 and Pace followed her style winning 6-4, 6-4. Lemar had the toughest match of the day and barely fell short with the score of 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(8-6).
The Lady Cobras will travel to Queens University Sunday, April 5th at 1:30pm. They hope to continue their winning streak as they square off against the Royals.
