Hartsville, S.C. - A three run double by Allie Bragg in game one and a walk-off solo homer by Anna Oswald in game two led the Coker Lady Cobras softball team to a pair of Conference Carolinas wins over Queens University of Charlotte on Saturday afternoon. Bragg's double led Coker to a 3-1 win in game one, while Oswald's homer led the Lady Cobras to a 2-1 win.
The wins improve the Lady Cobras to 14-13 overall, and 5-5 in the conference, while Queens falls to 13-18 overall, and 4-2 in the conference.
Game One
In game one Coker's Shelly Catlett (Orangeburg, SC) and Queen's Chantel Dodge had a pitching battle that saw each pitcher go the distance and pitch complete games, but in the end Coker got the best of Dodge and took home the 3-1 win.
Catlett (10-7) earned the win allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts, while Dodge (8-10) took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits with 11 strikeouts.
Bragg (Cassett, SC) led the Coker offense, with a double and three RBIs, while Oswald was 2-for-3 with a double.
For Queens, Kari Kmetic was 1-for-3 with a home run, an RBI and a run scored, while Megan Campbell was 1-for-3.
Game Two
Game two was another pitching duel, this time it was Sydney Greenwalt (Edwardsville, IN) and Brittany Stephens dueling it out on the mound, with some help from Dodge and Catlett in the final innings. With each team's pitching allowing just one run through seven innings, it was an Oswald blast over the left field fence in the bottom of the seventh that gave Coker a 2-1 win.
Catlett (11-7) earned the win in relief throwing 2.1 innings, allowing no runs and no hits with five strikeouts. Dodge took the loss in relief, going 2.2 innings allowing just two hits and a run with three strikeouts.
Oswald led the Lady Cobras at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run, an RBI and a run scored, while Brittany Owens (Johnsonville, SC) was 2-for-3 with a double and Shannon Mitchell (Virginia Beach, VA) was 1-for-4 with a double.
Queens was led by Mary Lee Giurintano, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Alisha Waldrop was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Coker returns to the field on Sunday, as they travel to Lees-McRae for a conference double-header starting at 2:00 p.m.
