Hartsville, S.C. - Coker opened their two game series with Millersville University with a 6-2 loss to the Marauders. Millersville used a four run fourth inning, along with a runs in the seventh and ninth innings to take home the game one victory.
Coker tried to rally late in the game, as they scored two runs in the ninth, but nine stranded runners and hitting just 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position made it a long day for the Cobras.
The win evens the Marauders record at 5-5, while Coker falls to 9-9 on the season.
On the mound, Forrest Mengle (2-1) earned the win as he held the Cobras scoreless through his 6.2 innings of work, allowing just five hits with six strike outs. Jesse Hatchell (Florence, SC) (1-3) took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits, with two strike outs in an inning of work.
Brinley Griffin (Port St. John, FL) was the offensive leader for the Cobras, going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a run scored, while Trey Lynch (Florence, SC) was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
For Millersville, Cody Wile was 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, an RBI and two runs scored, while Derek Kline also had a round tripper, with an RBI and a run scored. Chris Edgar also had two hits and a run scored for the Marauders.
Coker and Millersville will once again take the field tomorrow, as they complete their two game non-conference series. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Tom J. New Field.
