Women's Tennis Contiunes Winning Ways

Charlotte, N.C. - The Coker's women tennis team continued their winning streak Sunday afternoon as they beat Queens University 8-1. The win improved their record to 7-4 and 4-3 in conference play.

The Lady Cobras started their domination early as they captured all three doubles points. Rachel Lemar (London, England) and Alyssa Blanchard (Columbia, SC) at No. 1 doubles and Cassidy Spencer (Wilkesboro, NC) and Lindsay Crighton (Florence, SC) at No.3 each defeated their opponents 8-2. Kendall Sigmon (Hilton Head, SC) and Ashley Pace (Clinton, SC) battled and won No.2 doubles 8-6.

The Cobras kept the momentum going as they won five out of six singles. At the No.2 and No.3 positions, Blanchard and Spencer won 6-0, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-2 respectively. Stephanie Medley (Sumter, SC) received her win because of retirement by her opponent, while Pace and Crighton easily defeated their opponents at the No.5 and No. 6 spots 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-2. The lone win for the Royals came at the No.1 position as Lemar lost 6-3, 7-5.

The team will take the court again for a home match on Tuesday, April 7 at 2:00pm. They will be taking on the Bulldogs of Barton College in hopes to continue their conference winning streak.
