Hartsville, S.C. - The Coker senior Cobras did not finish out their Conference Carolinas home series the way they had hoped, as Mount Olive College handed the Cobras their first conference series sweep of the season on Sunday with a 10-2 loss. The loss drops the Cobras to 17-20 overall, and 4-12 in the conference, while the Trojans improved to 23-16 overall, and 9-6 in the conference.
Mount Olive jumped on the board first with a run in the first, then after three scoreless innings the Trojans added three runs in fifth, one in the sixth, four in the seventh and one in the eighth inning. Coker's only runs of the game came in the seventh inning.
Coker's Chris Thomas (Bluffton, SC) (4-5) took the loss on the mound, allowing five runs on seven hits in six innings of work with a strikeout, while Kyle Jones (Greenville, NC) (2-1) earned the win, allowing just two hits over four innings with two strikeouts.
Kyle Walker (Centralia, IL) and Brinley Griffin (Port St. John, FL) were each 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead the Cobras at the plate, while Karl Ankersen (Mt. Pleasant, SC) was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Also collecting hits on the day were Ricky Deleandro (Mentor, OH) and Nate Donovan (Matthews, NC).
Leading the Trojans was Rich Racobaldo (Marlton, NJ), going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and two runs scored, while Alex Vertcnik (Waukesha, WI) was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Kevin Kearney (Fife, WA) and Jesse Lancaster (Goldsboro, NC) each had two RBIs for Mount Olive and Dylan Holton (Princeton, Nova Scotia) had a triple with three runs scored.
Coker will return to the field on Wednesday, when they travel to Columbia, S.C. to face Benedict College at 6:00 p.m.
