Hartsville, S.C. - Continuing their three match winning streak, Coker College's women's tennis team defeated Barton College 9-0 on Tuesday, April 7. With the win, the Lady Cobras improve to 8-4 on the season and 5-3 in conference play.
Starting off quickly, Rachel Lemar (London, England) and Alyssa Blanchard (Columbia, SC) clinched the victory at No. 1 doubles 8-4 followed by the No. 2 doubles pair of Ashley Pace (Clinton, SC) and Kendall Sigmon (Hilton Head, SC) winning 8-4 as well. The third point of the day for the Cobras came at the No. 3 doubles spot as Cassidy Spencer (Wilkesboro, NC) and Lindsay Crighton (Florence, SC) battled to defeat their opponents 8-6.
The momentum continued as Coker was able to take all six singles points as well for the day. Lemar easily defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-0 in the top spot, followed by a win from Blanchard 6-0, 7-5. Spencer wasted no time winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 followed by Stephanie Medley who won 6-1, 6-2. Rounding out the singles lineup, Pace defeated her opponent 7-5, 6-2 ,while Crighton claimed the last victory 6-0, 6-0.
The Lady Cobras will take the court one last time at home on Tuesday, April 14 to take on Pfeiffer University. The match is scheduled for 2:00pm and will include the honoring of the four senior players on the team. This will round out the regular conference play of the season and determine the seeding of the Lady Cobras in the Conference Carolinas tournament on April 17-19.
