FMU southpaw named Pitcher of the Week; Patriots now 23rd in poll

FLORENCE, S.C. – Following his first win of the season, Francis Marion University junior left-hander Josh Edgin has been named the Peach Belt Conference “Pitcher of the Week,” for the week of March 24-30. The Patriots also moved up six spots to 23rd in this week’s Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Top 30 poll.

Edgin tossed 5.2 hitless innings against North Georgia College & State University on Sunday, and limited the Saints to one unearned run on one hit in seven total innings as the Patriots prevailed 9-3. He struck out four batters and walked only two.

The 6-2 native of Three Springs, Pa., evened his season mark at 1-1 and lowered his earned run average to 5.17.

Francis Marion owns a 21-11-1 overall record and occupies third place in the PBC standings with a 9-7 mark, one-and-a-half games behind conference-leading Georgia College & State University. The Patriots will face the eight-ranked Bobcats for a three-game series this weekend in Milledgeville, Ga.

FMU will play host to Belmont Abbey College on Thursday at 6 p.m. on Cormell Field.
Dating back to the 2005 season, the Patriots have appeared in 71 of the past 76 national polls.
Florida Southern College (28-5) occupies the top position in the poll, while three PBC squads are ranked.
