Kevin Costner and Modern West to Perform At the 25th Running of the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race

CONCORD, N.C. (May 8, 2009) - Lowe's Motor Speedway announced today
that actor and musician Kevin Costner and Modern West will perform a
pre-race concert for the 25th running of the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race.

Academy Award winner Costner and his band will perform a 45-minute
afternoon concert prior to the Montgomery Gentry show presented by Jim Beam
in the infield between Turns 1 and 2. Admission to the concert is free with
the purchase of a ticket to the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race.

"I have been a longtime NASCAR fan and to be able to perform at
Lowe's Motor Speedway, what many consider to be NASCAR's home track, will be
an incredible experience," said Kevin Costner. "With all the hype that
surrounds the All-Star Race it is sure to be a spectacular night and I am
excited to be a part of it."

Costner is no stranger to the art of making music. He has always had
a great interest in music, learning to play the piano and guitar at a young
age. Costner also sang in church choirs and school productions growing up.
In 2005 Costner returned to his roots when Modern West was formed,
but the band's history goes back some 20 years. Costner first met band mate
John Coinman in Los Angeles during an acting workshop and it wasn't long
before the two realized they shared a passion for music and began playing
and writing together. Soon after they formed a band called Roving Boy.
As Costner's acting career began to take off, his music career took
a back seat, but he never lost the passion for music. After some
encouragement from his wife Christine, Costner got back into writing and
performing music and soon after the band was formed.
Modern West's debut album, Untold Truth's, was released in November
of 2008 on the Universal Republic/Universal Records South label. Prior to
the albums release Costner and Modern West performed at the Grand Ole Opry
in the famed Ryman Auditorium to promote the record.

Recently the band has been nominated for CMT's Wide Open Country
Video of the Year for their video "Backyard," which celebrates NASCAR and
features racing legend Richard Petty.

In addition to the concert Costner will be invited to the NASCAR
Sprint Cup Series drivers meeting and will serve as a celebrity judge in the
Pennzoil Victory Challenge, the annual burnout contest, prior to the start
of the NASCAR Sprint All-Star race.

Costner has been a regular presence in the NASCAR community of late
as part of his year- long partnership with the sport. Amongst many NASCAR
related endeavors, Costner is serving as the 2009 NASCAR Day spokesperson,
which will be celebrated this year on May 15th. As part of his role, he is

Nation’s Largest One-Day Charity Golf Tournament

The BI-LO Charity Classic, the largest one-day charity golf tournament in the United States, is being opened for public participation for the first time in its 25-year history. The Charity Classic takes place on more than ten golf courses throughout the Upstate of South Carolina and Southwestern North Carolina and raises funds for hundreds of charitable organizations.

Each individual player sponsorship spot costs $850 and includes 18 holes of golf at a first-class course and invitations for the player and a guest to the Charity Classic parties the evenings of Sunday, June 7 and Monday, June 8.

Players and a guest will attend the Pairings Party and Auction at 6 p.m. on Sunday. On Monday, participants will play a round at one of the Charity Classic courses, teeing off at 10 a.m. Following their game, they will attend the Awards Banquet that evening at 5:30 p.m. Each player will also have the opportunity to designate a portion of their player sponsorship funds to a BI-LO Charities charity of their choice.

Along with enjoying fantastic golf and parties, participation in the Charity Classic provides the unique opportunity to network with hundreds of business professionals and golf enthusiasts from around the county. Last year, more than 1,400 golfers from 35 different states participated in the Charity Classic and raised more than $5.6 million for deserving organizations.

Motor Racing Outreach and The Cinder Project Team Up

Concord, N.C. (March 17, 2009) - Motor Racing Outreach and The Cinder Project are teaming up to host a Ministry Benefit Concert, to raise support for both organizations. The event, sponsored by Lowe's Motor Speedway, will feature Dove Award nominee Steve Fee, who is an established artist featured at Passion '07, Catalyst, 7:22 and is artist in residence at North Point Community Church in Atlanta.

For more than two decades Motor Racing Outreach (MRO) has served the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series racing communities and their fans. MRO Chaplaincy and Outreach services are focused on introducing racers and their fans to personal faith in Christ, discipleship and Christian discipline, and active involvement in the local church. Annually MRO, working in partnership with local churches and other ministry organizations, has the opportunity to present a message of hope and change to more than three million fans of NASCAR.

The top moments in Lowe's Motor Speedway history have been narrowed
down to 32 and condensed into short video clips that fans can view prior to
making their choice. The online selection process pairs those memorable

North Carolina's Governor Bob Scott passes away at age 79

HAW RIVER, N.C. (January 23, 2009) – Former North Carolina Governor Robert "Bob" Walter Scott passed away early this morning from failing health, according to his family. His death brings to an end a life spent serving the people of the great state of North Carolina.

Scott died peacefully at 3:00 a.m. at the Hospice Palliative Care Center of Alamance County. A funeral service will be held for Governor Scott at Hawfields Presbyterian Church in Mebane, N.C., on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at 11:00 a.m.

Born on June 13, 1929, Scott was the son of N.C. Governor and U.S. Senator Kerr Scott and Mary White Scott, of Hawfields. He is predeceased by his son, W. Kerr Scott, and his brother, Osborne White Scott. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jessie Rae Scott; daughters Meg Phipps, Mary Scott, Susan Sutton and Jan Scott; and seven grandchildren, as well as his sister, Mary Kerr Lowdermilk.

Scott went to Alexander Wilson High School and attended both Duke University and NC State University. He served in the counter-intelligence corps of the U.S. Army during the Korean War before returning to manage the family dairy farm in Alamance County.

He was an active member of the State Grange and many agriculture organizations and did not have his mind originally set on politics. However, he was persuaded by supporters to run for office and was eventually elected to serve as North Carolina's lieutenant governor in 1964. He was then elected governor in 1968. After being term-limited out of office, he was appointed by President Jimmy Carter to serve as the chairman of the Appalachian Regional Commission and later became the president of the N.C. Community College System from 1983 to 1995.

He was a visionary leader and a staunch advocate for civil rights, rural communities and education. Among his many accomplishments, his foresight led to the creation of the 16-campus state university system and a reorganization of state departments and agencies.

Scott's personal passion for history led to the preservation of the State Capitol, restoration of the Governor's Mansion, creation of the Reed Gold Mine State Historic Site and many other contributions to North Carolina art, culture and history.

His rural roots allowed him to connect with average citizens despite his family's pedigree. He often remarked he was just as comfortable eating with "barbeque kings" as he was with European royalty. In fact, Scott and his wife hosted the executive mansion's first documented black-tie possum dinner in 1969.

That wasn't the only first for Scott. He appointed the Honorable Sammie Chess, Jr., as the first African-American to serve as a superior court judge. He also forced through the state's first cigarette tax to fund kindergarten education programs.

Although he never sought recognition, Scott was honored with many awards, including the North Carolina Award for Public Service, NC State University's Watauga Award and the North Caroliniana Society Award.
