FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University sophomore Dilshod Sharifi has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference men’s tennis “Player of the Week” for the week of March 24-30.
Sharifi, a native of Dushanbe, Tajikistan, posted a 2-0 mark in singles and earned a doubles win over the nation’s fifth-ranked duo.
Playing in the No. 2 singles position, he beat the 11th-ranked singles player in the country, from Armstrong Atlantic State University, in a third-set tiebreaker, and then beat Anderson University’s No. 2 player in three sets.
Sharifi and Oshada Wijemanne also beat Anderson’s No. 1 doubles team 8-3, a duo that is ranked fifth nationally in Division II play.
For the season, Sharifi owns a 12-2 record in both singles and doubles play. He has helped lead the Patriots to an 11-4 record and a No. 11 national ranking.
