Hartsville, S.C. - Going once, going twice, SOLD! That phrase echoed through the Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium on Thursday night, as the Coker College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its second annual Athlete Auction for Make-A-Wish.
The SAAC Committee, along with the help of Coker and Hartsville communities, raised more than $1,600 for Make-A-Wish by auctioning off 17 pairs of athletes, two coaches and nine teams to buyers from the Coker and Hartsville communities for various services. The men's baseball team, women's soccer and men's basketball were the highest grossing teams, with each going for $200, while the pairing of three men's soccer players; Beeze Chastain, Russell Hill and Mike Crook, also earned $200.
"The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee leadership did a fantastic job of organizing the student-athlete auction," said Coker College Director of Athletics and SAAC Advisor Tim Griggs. "Over 150 Coker student-athletes volunteered their time and energy for the Make-A-Wish cause. This type of effort provides a great deal of pride to all those associated with the College and its athletics programs."
In addition to the work of the student-athletes, the Coker SAAC Committee would like to thank the evenings auctioneer, Bob Robeson. Without his voice and talents none of this would have been possible.
