4th Annual Taste of Coker Set for September 24

The 4th Annual Taste of Coker date has been set! The Coker College Athletic Department will once again open their doors and their grills on Thursday, September 24, 2009. In just its fourth year in existence, the Taste of Coker has become a local favorite of the Hartsville and surrounding communities.

Last year more than 700 people turned out to sample the goodies of more than 35 local chefs, while participating in activities with Coker athletes, listening to music and watching some live entertainment from the Coker dance and cheerleading teams.

The fourth installment of the Taste of Coker promises to be just as exciting as the previous three, with more food, more fun and even more interactive entertainment planned for the whole family to enjoy.

Tickets to the 4th Annual Taste of Coker go on sale August 1, 2009, at the Coker Athletics Office. Coker College Adding Three Athletic Programs

Hartsville, S.C. - Coker College is adding junior varsity (JV) baseball, a varsity cheerleading squad, and a dance team to its athletics program starting in fall 2009.

"The JV baseball program will allow players to improve their skill and play the game they love at the college level," said Coker College President Dr. B. James Dawson. "The cheerleaders and dance team will inject a new sense of excitement into Coker's athletic competitions while being college ambassadors at off-campus events."

Coker College will hire two coaches for the new programs. The head coach for the JV baseball team work in another area of the college to be determined by the candidate's qualifications. The head coach for the cheerleading squad and dance team will be an instructor in the college's dance program. Both coaches will also be responsible for recruiting new students.

The Cobras JV baseball team will play an abbreviated schedule of 15 to 20 games using the college's existing facilities and those at Byerly Park in Hartsville. They will compete against other teams in the region, such as USC-Sumter, USC-Lancaster, Florence-Darlington Technical College, St. Andrews College and Pfieffer University.

Coker College has 12 NCAA Division II men's and women's teams competing in Conference Carolinas.
